Dr Wright-Smith is an interventional cardiologist. He is highly experienced in the fields of coronary angioplasty and stenting, as well as renal, carotid and peripheral angiography, angioplasty and stenting.
Dr Wright-Smith was registered as a medical practitioner in 1988. His cardiology training was undertaken at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and The Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane. He completed a Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at The Lahey Clinic in Boston, USA in 1998. During this time, he performed over 750 coronary angioplasties as well as training in peripheral angioplasty.
Dr Wright-Smith was the first internationally trained Interventional Cardiologist to exclusively practice on the Gold Coast and so brought a new standard of excellence to the area. He pioneered acute infarct angioplasty in the region, and in 1999 started the first 24-hour angioplasty service outside of Brisbane.
Dr Wright-Smith is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, a Member of the Cardiac Society of Australia and NZ, a Member of the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions, a Member of the Massachusetts Medical Society, and a Member of The Australian Medical Association (AMA). Dr Wright-Smith is the Director of Cardiac Services at Pindara Private Hospital, and chair of the Medical Advisory Committee and Director of the Cardiac Catheter laboratory at John Flynn Hospital.
Dr Wright-Smith is committed to medical education and is a frequent lecturer to GP’s, nurses, ambulance officers, and medical students at Griffith University. He is a regular participant in local, national, and international cardiac educational meetings.
